Aviation Training Network (ATN)
General Overview
Note: If training via ATN needs to be recorded in
eLMS, please contact your eLMS Primary Level I Administrator.
Distance Learning refers to teaching and learning situations in which the instructor and learners are separated by time and/or space. To augment FAA's distance learning methods (CBI and Correspondence Study), Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) was implemented in 1995 with the installation of the Aviation Training Network, a satellite-based system at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City. By utilizing a multimedia approach with the added flexibility of the ATN, FAA can implement more cost-effective training methods and save significant money in its operations training budget.
With 125 receive sites across the country, the ATN is readily accessible to a large number of FAA employees.
ATN capability can also be made available to other government agencies (federal, state, or local) interested in training via ATN. For information on sharing of federal government resources, visit the home page of he Federal Government Distance Learning Association. The mission of this organization is to promote distance learning within the Federal Government.
ATN clients include Aircraft Certification, Security, Airports, Flight Standards, Air Traffic, Human Resources, Airways Facilities, CMEL, Civil Rights, Aviation System Standards, AVR, ARC, AGC, ANI, AST, Runway Safety, APF, AFZ, AMI, and more.
