Aircraft Noise Measurement and Evaluation for Engineers Course 28331

DESCRIPTION

This nine-day course enables the engineer to determine compliance with the noise standards for aircraft type certification as set forth in part 36 of the FAR.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Explain the history of events leading to the Noise Control Act of 1972, the Aircraft Noise Type Certification Programs, and equivalent findings.
  • Explain the requirements for, and the contents of, environmental impact statements and negative declarations.
  • Identify and explain the provisions, application, and correct interpretation of FAR 36.
  • Explain the intent and meaning of equivalent means of compliance procedures as illustrated in Advisory Circular 36-4.
  • Operate the various types of instrumentation that may be used to measure sound for noise certification testing, and describe the functions, accuracy, and operating procedures for each instrument.
  • List and explain the effect of the various environmental factors that absorb or attenuate sound and describe correction procedures that may be used for each factor.
  • Describe the causes of fixed wing aircraft and rotorcraft noise and explain the effect of gross weight center of gravity, flaps, poser, rate of climb and airspeed on noise.
  • Identify and explain the provisions, application, and correct interpretation of ICAO Annex 16, noting differences from FAR 36 and emphasizing the specific requirements for helicopter noise certification.
  • Explain the various methods used to minimize noise in aircraft and engines and describe procedures used to evaluate the effectiveness of these methods.
  • Evaluate test procedures and determine from on-site inspection the adequacy of test conditions, test sites, noise measurement systems, meteorological measurement systems and aircraft tracking systems.
  • Evaluate example noise certification data, analysis and correction procedures, including computer outputs and input algorithms, from a manufacturer transport aircraft noise certification program for compliance with FAR 36.
