Air Traffic System Administrator for ETMS (Linux O/S) Course 50128

DESCRIPTION

This 10-day course is designed primarily for those personnel newly selected to be system administrators for the Linux O/S-based ETMS. The course consists of classroom and lab instruction. Subject areas include (Linux-based) ETMS administrator duties, to include major functions/tasks that they must be able to perform to administer the ETMS and enable its use. Database management, system security, and enabling and modifying user access are among the topics covered.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be able to:
  • Define terms associated with ETMS. Define the hardware structure of the ETMS network.
  • Define and describe the operating system used with ETMS, start-up, login, logout, and shut down individual workstations.
  • Define, describe and demonstrate directory structure and commands used to navigate the directory environment.
  • Describe, start and stop background processes of the ETMS network.
  • Describe and demonstrate customizing the system for individual users.
  • Perform maintenance functions on the ETMS workstation including backing up data and purging old files.
  • Access network registry, assign passwords and establish new users on network.
  • Load software across ETMS network.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Facility support personnel in area control centers, terminals, regional offices, and headquarters who anticipate working as system administrator for the facility traffic management network system.

Prerequisites: Students are expected to have a working knowledge of the Traffic Situation Display (TSD). This is generally demonstrated by experience working as a TMC and/or the completion of course 50115.

Individuals should have prior LINUX/UNIX experience.
