Air Transportation of Dangerous Goods -International Course 72102

DESCRIPTION

This seven-day course is designed to prepare government and industry Dangerous Goods and Cargo Specialists in the proper procedures for handling dangerous goods shipments. The training provides a thorough understanding of ICAO guidelines for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air. The curriculum includes packaging, labeling, marking, handling, and documenting dangerous goods shipments. Instruction on effective procedures for conducting dangerous goods assessments and inspections is also included. Practical exercises and site visits to cargo handling facilities are used to enhance the training.

Interaction between participants and staff provides an opportunity to discuss specific issues and concerns, and to identify potential solutions or program enhancements. Participants demonstrate an understanding of course content through a variety of individual exercises, group activities, and a final practical exercise.

Participants receive personal copies of resource information to keep, including the ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Air, the ICAO Emergency Response Guide, and additional reference materials. A customized version of this course can be conducted in-country.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the course, participants will have an overall knowledge of the ICAO Dangerous Goods Program and guidelines and will be able to:
  • Identify factors that affect the safe air transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • Identify publications that pertain to the safe transport of Dangerous Goods
  • Identify basic terminology associated with Dangerous Goods hazards
  • Explain precautions that a Dangerous Goods Agent should take during a DG incident

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This training is designed for personnel who are responsible for regulatory oversight of cargo operations that accept dangerous goods, and air carrier personnel involved in accepting, approving, or handling dangerous goods shipments. Participants should have the authority to recommend and/or implement changes in their respective programs based on the concepts, knowledge, skills and procedures presented in the training.

Prerequisites: The course is conducted in English. Participants must be able to fluently speak, read, and understand the English language to effectively take part in the training.
